Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), a nationally prominent comprehensive college for the performing and media arts, seeks an experienced teacher and performing artist for a full-time tenure-track appointment, intended to begin August 15, 2027. Rank and salary will be commensurate with credentials. Initial appointment is three (3) years, after which the faculty member is eligible for reappointment.
About The Department
CCM’s brass department is a highly collaborative, multi-dimensional area of the Performance Studies Division, offering BM, MM, Artist Diploma, and DMA degree programs. Its graduates are currently teaching at major conservatories and performing in major orchestras and premier military bands.
CCM values excellence in teaching, innovation in curriculum, and the ability to connect with a diverse group of students seeking to explore a range of opportunities and careers in a rapidly changing marketplace. CCM faculty are committed to recruiting, mentorship, career preparation, and student support. CCM encourages an inquisitive, collaborative spirit and expertise in a broad and diverse range of repertoire. The department is seeking to enhance its current offerings with candidates who have research or performance interests in a related field reflective of the future job market. This could include but is not limited to areas such as community engagement, music entrepreneurship, music leadership, music technology, pedagogy, chamber music, or diverse repertoire.
Essential Functions
- Serve as trumpet professor-in-residence
- Teach undergraduate and graduate applied trumpet lessons
- Teach weekly trumpet studio and excerpts classes
- Teach Trumpet Repertory and Pedagogy class
- Recruit and retain students of exceptional promise
- Advise doctoral students on capstone projects and lecture recitals
- Coach chamber ensembles as needed
- Maintain national and international visibility through solo, chamber, and/or orchestral and large ensemble performances, teaching, and/or research
- Serve the college and university community through activities such as committee membership, academic advising, and mentoring students
Minimum Requirements
Prior to the effective date of the appointment, the successful candidate must have either:
- A Master's degree in Music or a related field, plus two years of professional trumpet performance experience and two years of trumpet teaching experience. These may be concurrent.
OR
- A Bachelor's degree in Music or a related field, plus seven years of trumpet experience. This must include five years of post-baccalaureate work in trumpet (such as leading clinics, masterclasses, workshops, coaching, publishing scholarly or pedagogical works, recording projects, or touring), two years of professional trumpet performance experience, and two years of trumpet teaching experience. These years may be concurrent.
In addition, candidates must have evidence of a national or international performance profile. This may be demonstrated through items including but not limited to competition wins/awards, commercial recordings, and high-profile performances.
